A Minden man is facing charges in at least six parishes and one county for a scam that involved selling bogus newspaper ads, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

David Dix, 61, went into several businesses in Caddo Parish stating he worked for a local newspaper.  Dix sold ads and told the businesses their ads would appear in the June edition of the paper.  When the ads did not appear, the businesses contacted the paper and discovered Dix had never worked for them.

Some of the businesses wrote checks to the newspaper.  Dix altered the checks by adding his name so they could be cashed, said Sheriff’s Detective Frank Edmondson.

Dix was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on two counts of theft and one count of forgery. His bond was set at $75,000.

Dix was brought to CCC from Desoto Parish where he was being held on similar charges. He is awaiting transfer to other jurisdictions including Bossier, Claiborne, Jackson, and Bienville parishes, and Harrison County, Texas.
