A man who stole guns in Caddo Parish while on the lam from a Jackson, MS, jail in 2005, has been returned to Caddo Parish on an outstanding warrant.

In October, 2005, James Kenneth Bruce and another man escaped from the Hinds County jail in Jackson, where Bruce was being held for burglary. After the escape, they joined two women and a third man and headed west on I-20. Eventually the group found themselves in the Bethany, LA, area, where they burglarized a residence and stole several firearms.

Bruce was captured in Colorado County, Texas, shortly after his escape and was returned to Jackson. On November 23, 2005, Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Terry Richardson obtained an arrest warrant for Bruce and others in connection with the stolen guns.

It is not known when Bruce completed his sentence at the Hinds County jail, but in 2010, he was arrested in south Louisiana for an unrelated offense. After serving his sentence there, the Caddo Sheriff’s Office was contacted, and he was transferred back here on Monday and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on the 2005 burglary charge.

Bruce is 40 years old and resides in Chalmette.
