Winter Blast is approaching soon
Sheriff Whitehorn would like to inform the citizens of Caddo Parish that winter weather is expected early this week. He urges residents to check on their elderly neighbors, as cold weather increases the risk of hypothermia, which can be life-threatening. Symptoms of hypothermia include confusion, fatigue, shivering, and numbness.
Warming centers for the homeless are opening at the following locations:
- Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission, located at 901 McNeil Street
- Hope Connections, located at 2350 Levy Street
- The Highland Center, located at 520 Olive Street (open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM)
***Indoor Safety Tips:***
- Ensure that fuel-burning appliances are well-ventilated and inspected to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Use electric heaters carefully to avoid shock or fire hazards.
- Keep flammable materials at least three feet away from heat sources.
- Only use heating equipment that is approved for indoor use.
- Insulate all exposed pipes to protect them from cold temperatures.
***For Pets, the Sheriff advises:***
- Provide warm shelter.
- Remove harmful substances like antifreeze.
- Bang on your car's hood before starting the engine to avoid harming any hidden animals.
