Man arrested after crashing into Caddo K-9 unit
A man is in jail today charged with DWI after crashing into a Caddo Sheriff's K-9 vehicle, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
Deputy Bryant Mendolia and his K-9, Nero, were assisting Louisiana State Police with an operation in Shreveport Friday night when his vehicle was hit by a Nissan Sentra driven by Demarkendrick Jaqwandemael Simpson. Mendolia was traveling on Hearne Avenue when Simpson pulled in front of his vehicle from a turn lane. Mendolia and Nero received minor injuries.
Simpson was arrested by the Louisiana State Police and booked into Caddo Correctional Center for DWI First, Possession of Alcohol in a Vehicle, Possession of Schedule I, two counts of Vehicle Negligent Injury, and other traffic offenses.
Mendolia was enroute to assist LSP with a traffic stop when his vehicle was hit. The operation involving LSP and CPSO is an ongoing effort to help deter criminal activity inside the city limits of Shreveport.
