Tuesday, December 8, 2020
Caddo Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for forging checks stolen from local mailboxes, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
Sheriff’s Det. Jeremy Edward arrested 28-year-old Travis Thomas on Monday and charged him with two counts of bank fraud and five counts of forgery. Thomas was also charged with one count of forgery by Shreveport Police Det. Jess Camp.
Edward said that between October 5 and November 16 Thomas took several checks to area banks and cashed them after altering the payee information and amounts. Over $3,666 was stolen.
Thomas told detectives he received the checks from someone else after they were stolen from the mailboxes and cashed them in exchange for a cut of the money.
