UDPATE: Early this morning, the driver of the black Chevy pick-up died from injuries sustained in the crash. 

ORIGINAL REPORT: Caddo Deputies investigated a fatality crash on LA Hwy 168 eastbound in north Caddo Parish this afternoon, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

About 1:30 PM, a motorist observed a black Chevrolet pick-up traveling southbound on Interstate 49 at a high rate of speed just before it exited LA Hwy 168 eastbound.

After further investigation, Senior Deputy Michael McConnell reported a witness observed a black Chevrolet pick-up truck matching the same description cross into the westbound lane on LA Hwy 168. The truck was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the curve when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

Deputy McConnell reported the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport by Caddo Fire District 8 with life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still being investigated by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.
