Texas man arrested for making fake checks
A Texas man was arrested on Wednesday after he tried to cash a counterfeit check at a local bank, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
Brandon Colby Jones, 26, of New Summerfield, Texas, walked into a bank in the 2500 block of Bert Kouns and tried to cash a fake check for $2,479, but the teller recognized the check as being fraudulent and contacted Shreveport Police. Jones was arrested at the scene with the check and five fake IDs all in different names.
A female who dropped Jones off at the bank fled the scene and was apprehended nearby by Shreveport Police.
A follow-up investigation was conducted by Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Clarissa Harris with the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force. A search of Jones’ hotel room turned up blank check paper, several more counterfeit checks, a printer, laptop, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.
Harris booked Jones into Caddo Correctional on five counts of unlawful production, manufacturing, distribution, or possession of fraudulent documents for identification purposes and eight counts of monetary instrument abuse.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
