Suspected counterfeiter arrested during search

Update: Late this afternoon, Spann was charged with an additional 11 counts of forgery and one count of criminal conspiracy for printing counterfeit checks in the name of a fast-food restaurant for a total loss of $11,772 to several stores.

Original release: A Shreveport man suspected of printing hundreds of counterfeit checks was arrested today on related charges, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Carlos Spann, 37, of the 2000 block of Sherringham Court, was arrested at his residence following a search by detectives with the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force and the Sheriff’s Special Response Team. Recovered during the search were electronics, printers, check stock, computers and other evidence related to printing counterfeit checks and making counterfeit IDs.

Spann was arrested on a warrant obtained by Sheriff’s Detective Yomeka Evans. He was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on one count of Criminal Conspiracy and 14 counts of Forgery. His total bond is $165,000.

Spann remains under investigation by the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force and other local law enforcement agencies.
