Caddo deputies arrested a Shreveport woman on Friday for stealing $27,000 in jewelry from her employer, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Lainey Wharton, 27, is accused of taking two rings and a bracelet from a home on Red Oak Lane where she provided cleaning services.  The theft was reported to the Sheriff’s Office on Friday, February 13.

Sheriff’s Detective Donnie Laney said Wharton pawned the bracelet and one of the rings at local businesses. She was arrested on Friday after Laney and Sheriff’s Cpl. Lonney Smalley observed her attempting to return the other ring by dropping it in the victims’ mailbox.

Wharton, of the 200 block of Wyandotte, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on one count of felony theft, two counts of misdemeanor theft, and one count of possession of schedule II narcotics.
