U.S Hwy. 71 south of Hosston is partially closed this morning as Caddo deputies investigate a fatal crash involving an 18-wheeler, according to Sheriff Steve Prator.

The crash occurred some time before 4 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 71 and St. John's Church Road north of I-49. An 18-wheeler carrying assorted freight was northbound when the driver left the road on the right side and hit several trees. He died at the scene.

The driver's name is being withheld pending notification of family.

Patrol deputies say only the northbound lane of Hwy. 71 is closed but drivers are encouraged to take an alternate route to avoid delays while deputies investigate the crash.
