Vivian woman dies after being struck by train
Thursday, February 20, 2014
Caddo Sheriff’s deputies are assisting the Vivian Police Department at the scene of a train-pedestrian accident that occurred just before 3 p.m. today, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
Brenda Martin, 50, of Vivian, was crossing the tracks at a pedestrian crossing in the 500 block of NE Front Street when she was hit by the southbound KCS train. Sheriff’s Sgt. Glenn Cornell said the engineer sounded the train’s whistle but Martin did not acknowledge hearing it.
The train, which was carrying coal, was traveling about 30 miles per hour and had 125 cars and four engines.
