An Alabama man is back in Caddo Parish today where he’s facing criminal charges for possessing more than $100,000 in stolen property, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

          Matthew Ray Marsh, 26, of Cleveland, Alabama, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center Tuesday on two counts of illegal possession of stolen things. He was arrested in Blount County, Alabama, on a felony warrant obtained by Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Terry Richardson.

          Authorities began investigating Marsh in December after a man who reported a company truck stolen saw Marsh driving the truck on Linwood near Southern Loop.  The man followed the truck as he was in contact with Caddo Sheriff’s Office dispatchers. The stolen truck pulled into a driveway in the 1000 block of Barron Road. The driver fled on foot and was not located.

          Caddo detectives obtained a search warrant for a building on the property and learned that it was being rented by Marsh. Inside they found thousands of dollars in stolen property from Webster Parish, Bossier City, and Birmingham, Alabama. The property included a 2006 Dodge flatbed truck with equipment, a Big Tex 40-foot gooseneck trailer, mechanic and shop tools, a Caterpillar skid steer, a Caterpillar trencher attachment, and a silver diamond-plate truck tool box.

          Richardson said Marsh was using the building to disguise the stolen property by repainting it and removing serial numbers.  

          Marsh had been living in the Minden area while working on a pipeline for the past several months. Other suspects are under investigation and additional charges against Marsh are pending.
