Caddo Sheriff's detectives arrested a Shreveport man for causing injuries to a 3-year-old boy while spanking him.

The incident was reported to the Caddo Sheriff's Office after a family member took the child to the hospital with bruises on his face, chin, buttocks, legs, and hand.

John Willard, 34, of the 9200 block of North Sunset, was arrested by Det. James Moore for cruelty to juveniles. Willard was also charged with domestic abuse battery for grabbing the child's mother by the side of her head and pushing her after she confronted Willard about beating the child. 

The child was treated and released from Willis-Knighton North.

Willard was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on Thursday.
