Mom arrested for child desertion
Caddo sheriff’s detectives arrested a Shreveport woman for leaving her 18-month-old baby home alone for more than 12 hours, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.
Brittany Jones, 23, said she left her child unattended and asleep in her crib around 10:30 p.m. on July 3, while she went downtown. At 10:55 p.m., Jones reportedly hit a vehicle in a downtown Shreveport parking lot and fled the scene. She was arrested nearby and booked into the City Jail for DWI and hit and run driving.
After hearing that Jones had been arrested, a family member went to Jones’ house in the 700 block of Jenkins Drive just after noon on July 4 and found the baby alone, crying in her crib. She took the baby into her custody and reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office on July 5.
Earlier today, Caddo Sheriff’s Detectives James Moore and Michael Price located Jones at her residence. She was interviewed at the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division and was arrested for child desertion and being in possession of a legend drug - 13 Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride pills.
Jones was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.
