Man arrested for stealing cash during courthouse security stop
A man going through the security screening at the Caddo Parish Courthouse this morning is accused of stealing $1,200 from an elderly man who was in line with him, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
An 80-year-old man placed the money in a tray while it moved through the screening process on a conveyer belt. Once the man had been screened, he went to retrieve his money, but found it missing.
Deputies viewed a video of the screening and identified the man who was in line in front of the victim. Deputy Tony Dickey spotted the suspect, Jutrivan Smith, on the second floor of the courthouse where Smith was waiting to go to court on a previous charge of illegal use of a weapon. Smith was questioned, and deputies found the money and the victim’s money clip in his possession.
Smith, 20, of the 2900 block of Hardy Street, was taken to the Caddo Correctional Center where he is expected to be booked for felony theft.
